What does Lagar de Cuchara mean?
A literal translation is ‘The olive press of the spoon. This refers to the period when the old property (now replaced) was a working olive press, set in the ‘spoon’, bowl at the head of the valley.
Where is it?
Lagar de Cuchara is in the Montes de Malaga, a small mountain range to the north of Malaga in Southern Spain. The house is approximately 5km from the town of Colmenar in the district of Solano. View location page here .
How do I find it from the airport?

When is it best to arrive?

What is provided?
There will be a basic welcome pack, sheets, bath and beach towels. A washing machine also available for your use.
Is the property available through tour operators?
No, Lagar de Cuchara has been a privately owned house for the past 20 years and has only been recently opened for holiday lets.
What if I have any problems?
As the house is privately managed, Cheryl is available to help throughout your stay. When meeting you, Cheryl will give you her phone number for any emergencies.
How big is the pool?
The pool is approximately 20’ x 8’ wide. In the ‘deep’ end, it is 3’ deep with seating around the edge, ideal for sitting comfortably with up to 8 friends in the water relaxing! The shallow end is only 1.5’ deep, perfect for young children to play in.
Do we need a car?
Yes, the house is approximately 5 km from the village of Colmenar, 45 minutes from Malaga airport and 40 minutes from the seaside at Torre del Mar.
Can you recommend a car rental company?
Best to have a look on the internet; try ‘cheap car hire at Malaga airport’ on Google!
Where is the best supermarket to stock up on arrival?
The supermarkets are good in Colmenar, although small. The hypermarkets are Carrefour in Malaga and Eroski in Velez Malaga. Both stock almost everything that is available in the UK. We can email you directions to a hypermarket so you can stock up as soon as you pick up your car subject to your time of arrival.
Are there any local wines you can recommend?
There are great local wines at very competitive prices. You largely get what you pay for but you will be spoilt for choice.
Is it easy to find the house?
Cheryl will meet you in the village when you first arrive to show you the way. Once you know the route, it is easy!
Can we walk into the village from the house?
If you are fit! It is along a picturesque route that takes about an hour.
Where are the nearest restaurants?
There are restaurants in Colmenar, most of a reasonable standard.
Which restaurants do you recommend?
The very best, comparable with the best the UK has to offer are about half an hours drive away. See ‘eating out’ .
Are there any dress codes in any of the restaurants?
No! Go casual or smart as you wish.
How long does it take to get to the beach?
The beach at Torre del Mar is about a 35 minute drive. The beaches at Fuengirola and Marbella are about an hour to an hour and a half from the house.
Is there a local taxi service?
There are taxis in Colmenar.

Is the house overlooked by any other developments?
Not at all. The house is set in its own grounds at the end of the road, so there is not even passing traffic!
Is there any building going on anywhere near the house?
No, this is a quiet and secluded country accommodation.
How far is the nearest petrol station?
There is a station in Colmenar and on all the main roads
Can you smoke?
No, sorry. There is a strictly no smoking inside the accommodation.
